Crossing the Millenium Bridge towards St Pauls

About the LDA

We work to deliver the Mayor's vision for London to be a leading world city with strong, long-term economic growth, social inclusion and active environmental improvement. To do this, we are guided by the the Mayor's Economic Development Strategy for London, which provides the framework for our focus on Jobs (created through growth of business), Skills (for Londoners to access and fill London's jobs) and London's sustainable and environment friendly growth.

Our purpose and priorities

Delivering the Mayor's vision for London

We are one of the nine Regional Development Agencies (RDAs), set up by Government to facilitate continued economic growth of the region.

We are the only RDA that is accountable to a democratically elected Mayor in this region.

We work with the Mayor to develop his strategy for London's economic development and deliver the Mayor's priorities for London as well as the Government's priorities for the RDAs.

Our priorities

In order to support the Mayor's vision for London, we produce the Economic Development Strategy for London. The strategy focuses on four interconnecting themes that, together, will help ensure London remains a global success story. The four themes are:

Places and infrastructure – we invest in places and infrastructure to support future growth and create healthy, high-quality communities. We are investing in the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games as part of our efforts to regenerate the Lower Lea Valley and the wider Thames Gateway.

Supporting people – we invest in programmes that tackle barriers to employment and help to improve and strengthen the skills of the workforce.

Encouraging business – we invest in initiatives that help maintain London as a key place to do business, and encourage enterprise start-up, business growth and competitiveness.

Marketing and promoting London – we invest in marketing and promotion that helps maintain and develop London as a top international destination and the principal UK gateway for tourism, education and investment.

These four themes identified above are at the heart of our organisation principles of Jobs, Skills and Growth.

Our structure

The LDA's newly streamlined structure is closely aligned to delivery of the Mayor's agenda through closer partnership working, a focus on outcomes rather than outputs and delivery of real and accountable value for money to our stakeholders and London's residents.

Olympic Park land project

The LDA completed the largest and most complex land acquisition of modern times, relocating 200 businesses and helping 450 residents to move to new and better homes. The Agency has been identified as the legacy client for the Olympics and is developing the Legacy Masterplanning Framework for the development of the Olympic Park post 2012.
